JEREMIAH THE PROPHET
I love this man of God..
He had such a strong anointing and yet he had such inner struggles as to the call on his life…He did not back down no matter his inhibitions..
Perhaps more than any other book in the Bible, the book of Jeremiah reveals such a broadened inner grapple of a prophet of God.
Jeremiah would confess candidly the inner turmoil he had concerning his call to prophetic ministry.
Can you imagine the anguish he had over the message of judgment upon the people and the coming destruction of the land that he had to deliver? Yet, no matter what, he fulfilled his ministry of proclaiming God's judgment against the people of Judah and their lack of faithfulness to God ,their idolatry, and for their continuous disobedience to God's will.
I love the example of Jeremiah because he remained so faithful to God despite his countless hardships.
Do we remain faithful in the midst of hardships? Or do we jump ship as soon as we think God has not answered us in the way or in the timing that we would've liked..?
Jeremiah's dialogues ,prayers, and confessions, reveal such a deep understanding that this prophet had in regards to God's character and faithfulness.
For Jeremiah there was no question… The God of Israel was the undeniable God of all creation!
Jeremih had such a desire to have a deep rooted relationship with God and an understanding of the Word of God. It was the centerpiece of his life in his speech. God himself promised to touch Jeremiah's life and infuse his words into Jeremiah's mind and speech.
From that day forward there was no question this prophets soul would be like an unquenchable fire burning with the words, wisdom and the heart of God.
Jeremiah was so very aware of the provisions and blessings of the covenant between God and Israel. This was a covenant that bound Israel to God in such a special way. Such a bond of faithfulness, love and hope. But there were two sides to this covenant... faithfulness to the Lord would bring blessings and vast abundance, but disobedience, would result in monumental punishment, exile and complete destruction.
Jeremiah was continually calling people to obey the words of the covenant and to turn from their idolatry and their unjust treatment of one another (Jer11:6-7)
Jeremiah's message of judgment would also contain strong words of hope... He would tell of promises that a righteous remnant would be restored!
The land had been so utterly defiled by the people's idolatry.
Leaders had a literally brought the nation to the brink of ultimate disaster and we're exiled. But because of God's pure love for Israel, he promised to bring all of his people back from captivity and restore them to blessings... ultimately Israel's enemies would be annihilated and the people would praise joyfully over the goodness of God's glory and faithfulness.
I see so many correlations between that story and today… We must repent of our disobedience, idolatry sin and unfaithfulness to God!
There are two sides to God's covenant that still remain… We too can be blessed for obedience and we can reap the rewards... or we can reap punishment in the harvest of disobedience.
God is calling us to heed the warning ..just like he was calling Jeremiah to sound the alarm… God is sounding an alarm today for us..
Let's stand together and pray that God would indeed restore, bless, and heal our land as we repent and turn away from disobedience. Let's have a call to repentance, and humble ourselves and turn from our wicked ways and let Jeremiah's message of hope serve as a vast message of hope to all today that yes indeed we also would be the righteous remnant that would be restored because of God's everlasting love for us all.
I declare that we will sing joyfully of God's goodness!
Let not the Wiseman glory and his wisdom, but not the mighty man glory in his mind, nor let the rich me and glory in his riches, but let him who glories glory in this,
That he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, exercising loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight, says the Lord.
Hear the word which the Lord speaks to you, or house of Israel. Thus says the Lord
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. NIV
"The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land." NIV
This is what the LORD says: "Cursed are those who trust in mortals, who depend on flesh for their strength and whose hearts turn away from the LORD." NIV
"This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
God bless you all!
